Shots etc

Establishing shot tells us the setting, time, season, mood etc. It is usually a wide shot.
Master shot includes all the actors in the scene and it runs for the entire length of the action. It is usually the first shot to be covered and the master shot will be interwoven with other shots such as mid shots or inserts. In a conventional scene between two people, there will likely be 3 shots covered.

1 - Master
2 - Shot of subject a
3 - Shot of subject b

Two shot is a shot of two people, framed similarly to a mid-shot, they would use this to show the relationship between the two people

Aerial shot – An exterior shot filmed from the air. Often used to establish a location
POV – A shot that depicts the point of view of a character so that we see exactly what they see. Often used in Horror cinema to see the word through killers eyes
Over the shoulder shot is the most conventional shot to be used in the soap genre predominately. Usually used during conversation

Angles

Canted angle – is a camera shot in which the camera is deliberately slanted to one size, often used to portray unease…

Movement

Pan – A pan is horizontal camera movement in which the camera moves from left to right
Tilt - Up and down
Track - Distance stays the same and following the subject
Dolly -  Similar to a tracking shot but dolly can move in and out and change distance
Crane shot is achieved by a  camera mounted on a platform, which is connected to a mechanical arm that can lift the platform up, bring it down, or move it laterally across space
Steadicam is a brand of camera stabilizer mount for motion picture cameras that mechanically isolates it from the operators movement. It allows for a smooth shot.
Reverse zoom -  is when the camera is moving towards the background while zooming out or the camera moves away from the character or background while zooming in. Gives a unique effect

Composition - framing
Framing - deciding where an image begins and ends
By framing two objects together in the same image, we imply a connection between them
By isolating an object within a frame can make them look insignificant and lonely.
